Daniel & Hannah’s pre-wedding is one of my favourite shoots because from it came one of my personal favourite images. It’s a perfect example of how we take two folks in love and showcase that throughout the locations we visit. I call it a Godsend but you can call it luck, fortune, blessing, serendipity or whatever you like. There are two parts to making good photos, first it’s making the most of the things you can control. So that is everything from having the right gear (and knowing how to use it to its limits), also posing the couple, framing the shot and making beautiful frames over and over. This part is the skill of photography, knowing what to do, when and how to do it to get the best result.
Then there are all the things you can’t control. The weather, the sunsets, the people/animals/lighting you don’t expect to get. So those are the Godsend elements that I believe God commonly places in all our laps and our job is to take our skills and marry it with the things we’re given to produce something incredible.
My favourite image is the reflection silhouette. The thing out of my control is the amazing red and purple sunset that came when I happened to be out and able to place them in the right spot. These are the lovely surprises I’m always looking for that give us variety we can never plan for!
