Kenneth & Sianne – Autumn Pre-wedding
Kenneth and Sianne visited us from Singapore last May and we were able to fit in some of my favourite places on the coast and Swan Valley. Here is a little preview of their session.
What do you get when I shoot your pre-wedding? You get a feeling… something you don’t see or feel every day. I want to transport you away from reality and put you in a fairytale. The difference between my stories and the movies is that in my images, the romance is genuine and believable. Autumn is just around the corner so now is a perfect time to be booking in your pre-wedding shoot! We’ve already got a very packed calendar for April and May 2017 but there are still limited spots available. I actually shot over 30 pre-weddings in 2016 but I only blogged weddings last year so over the coming months you’ll see a whole bunch of featured pre-weddings. We also take a large number of international clients who fit in a holiday along with their session! Guy & Kerrie – Mosmans Wedding
Guy and Kerrie tied the knot and held their reception at Mosmans Restaurant. We had a warm balmy 35 degree day followed with some late rain clouds just before the reception. This brought in one of those rare red sunsets that come around a handful of times a year (when I happen to also have a camera handy). Here are my favourite images from the day…

Clyde & Shona – AQWA Wedding
Clyde & Shona were married at St Michael the Archangel Chapel in Leederville with their reception at the Aquarium of WA (AQWA). This was a crazy crazy wedding, one of the most fun of the year. Actually most of the day was pretty normal with a beautiful church ceremony followed by family photos and bridal party photos. Then we managed to shoot a little downstairs at the aquarium before heading up to the reception…

When I met Clyde and Shona we were going through the timeline just like the above until we got to the reception and they said they wanted to do the cake cutting and first dance straight away. I told them the sun wouldn’t have set yet so best to have it later but they insisted they’d need to get “everyone in a dancing mood as early as possible”. That’s when my ears pricked up… “why?”
Then they told me about this cool music video idea which required participation from everyone so the earlier people were willing to dance the more committed they would be to the video.
I got the idea and couldn’t wait for it!
Here are my favourite images from the day. As for that video? Once you get to the bottom of my images, check it out at the end of the post!

Patrick & Krystle – Caversham House Wedding
Krystle and Patrick were married on a warm summer day at Caversham House in February. The first email I got from Krystle was back in August 2014 about 18 months before her wedding. I was in China at the time visiting my wife’s family and wasn’t due back for another month so we exchanged a LOT of emails…. thousands of words in fact.
From that email exchange I felt like we clicked and spoke the same language. I could definitely see that Krystle was very thorough and organised but had a lot of questions and concerns she wanted addressed. It’s totally understandable as most couples get to meet me before booking and I was out of town for a long time. In her own words Krystle said:
“Picking and booking the right photographer is of the utmost importance to me.”

So we discussed everything, right down to the process of culling and editing photos. I’m not afraid of any questions, in fact I welcome them because of all the people around on the wedding day, I’m usually the one constant person within reach of the bride and groom throughout the day. So on top of the beautiful images, you’ll get peace of mind and a neverending smile.
Below is a recap of the day through our lenses (Adrian and I).

Justin & Elaina – AQWA Wedding
Justin & Elaina’s wedding was one of my favourites of the year, just a perfect combination of what I feel are the most special places to photograph if you’re getting married in WA. We started at the Rendezvous Hotel in Scarborough with a magnificent view of the ocean (in fact the last time I shot in this room we were looking out onto a thunderstorm!). We moved from the coast up to the Wanneroo Botanical Gardens for the ceremony, then out to some fields next to Lake Joondalup and then back to Hillarys for the reception at AQWA…

Elaina looked like she’d jumped out of a fairytale. My daughter would say she was a princess… a Disney princess even (I’m sure you can guess who). That incredible artistry is the handiwork of two creatives and friends whom I’ve had the pleasure of working with in the past. Lesley from Lush Hair & Makeup (hair) and Lisa Chester (makeup). Usually brides are shown previews of themselves as the hair and makeup is being applied so the end result doesn’t come as much of a surprise but with Elaina, she was blissfully looking out into the ocean as Lisa & Lesley worked their magic. When complete, Lisa held up a mirror for the reveal and I think of all the weddings I’ve been to, this was the first time I’ve seen a bride at the brink of tears, overwhelmed with happiness at the result. I just happened to be standing right in front of Elaina and the expression on her face (you can see below) is the feeling I hope all brides get to experience on their wedding day. If you’re a bride to be reading this post then there’s definitely something I can give you to take away here. It’s ABSOLUTELY worthwhile to get the right hair and makeup artists as well as the dress you want. I never rush hair and makeup artists on the day because I know that whilst we can take photos later, you can’t really fix the hair and makeup with editing. With dresses, I’ve also noticed that brides always end up buying the dress they wanted in the first place so you may as well go out and get the one your heart wants (that you can afford).
Justin on the otherhand was nervous… you could feel it as he waited for his bride but once she arrived you could definitely see the mix of emotions all over his face. The ceremony was beautifully run by Shannon Britten and after the formalities, Justin’s heart rate returned to normal and the rest of the day was filled with relaxed fun and laughter.
Here are my favourite images from the day and a list of vendors involved. Thanks to Adrian Tan for joining me behind the cameras again.
